My process
When designing a game from the ground up, I like to do a lot of rough Photoshop mock ups.
I often take these mock ups into After Effects to animate them to give the team a quick look inside my mind before production.
This video is an early concept for a turn based RPG based off of the kid’s show Slugterra. Ultimately, the game design changed completely throughout the design process, but it’s an interesting look at an early concept made from quick mock ups.
Infected: The Twin Vaccine was an entirely different type of game design process.
All of the game’s art & design was made by myself and one other person. We used real actors that we green screened & composited into photoshopped backgrounds.
This video shows a behind the scenes look at the art & design process.
Here is another look at an early game design concept that I made in Photoshop & After Effects.
This particular concept was made in 1 day as part of my hiring test when I had first applied to Budge Studios.
In all of the above examples, after the initial game design concept is approved, I create several iterations of deck presentations for each phase of the design process: Pitch, Pre-Vis, Game Design, Game Update, etc.
Once the concept is approved & just before production begins, I document everything in Confluence and help break down the JIRA tasks with a Producer & Art Lead.
